Kratom capsules – How to store them properly to ensure maximum potency?

Kratom has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its many reported health benefits. Kratom capsules in particular provide a convenient way to take this herbal supplement.

Keep them cool and dry

Moisture and heat are the two biggest enemies of kratom alkaloids. Exposure to moisture starts the process of oxidation, which gradually breaks down the active compounds over time. Heat accelerates this process. Ideally, you’ll want to store your kratom capsules at room temperature or slightly cooler, in a dark place inside your home. A kitchen cabinet, pantry, closet, or cupboard away from heat-producing appliances is a good choice. The capsules need to be stored in an airtight container, like a plastic bin or large glass jar. Adding a desiccant pack helps absorb any excess moisture from the air over time.

Avoid direct sunlight

The UV exposure starts degrading the alkaloids within a few weeks, if not sooner. Make sure wherever you store your capsules does not receive any sunlight throughout the day. If you want to keep them in a cupboard, choose one that does not have a glass window or door. Drawers and opaque plastic bins are ideal for blocking sunlight.

Use oxygen absorbers

Oxygen also reacts with kratom compounds over time, especially in the presence of moisture. Oxygen absorbers are small packets that soak up oxygen from the air inside a sealed container. They are commonly used to keep food fresh. Adding an oxygen absorber packet with your highest quality kratom capsules creates a more oxygen-free environment that further protects potency. If you want them to work properly, you should make sure the container is completely airtight.

Freeze for extended storage

If you need to store kratom capsules for more than a few months, freezing is a good option. The cold environment puts the alkaloid compounds into stasis by slowing oxidation and degradation. Simply, put your capsules into a freezer bag or airtight plastic container and store them in a freezer set to 0°F or lower. Kratom was kept frozen for over a year without noticeable potency loss. It’s a good idea to limit exposure to oxygen when freezing. Try to push as much air out of the container as possible before sealing it. You also add an oxygen absorber pack before freezing. Make sure capsules are completely dry, as any moisture will cause ice crystals to form during freezing and damage capsules upon thawing.

Proper handling

Aside from storage conditions, how you handle kratom capsules also impacts their potency over time. Avoid touching capsules directly as the oils on your hands start to break down the compounds. Count out your desired dose and transfer to a small cup or other clean surface rather than handling the capsules too much. Only open the main storage container when necessary so that the capsules are not exposed to air and moisture more than needed. Do not leave capsules sitting out of the container for long periods. After counting out your dose, promptly seal the container to limit oxygen exposure.
