But what is nicotine? Where does it originate? Nicotine is a chemical compound that can be found in several forms, the compound is made mainly of nitrogen and is created by several different types of plants, obviously including the tobacco plant. Nicotine can be found in multiple parts of the tobacco plant but large amounts can be found in the leaves. The plant and the compound were named for Jean Nicot, a French ambassador to Portugal, who sent tobacco seeds to Paris in the mid-sixteenth century.
